Mercadona supermarket had opened on Friday 20th October 2017 in Puerto Rico Gran Canaria. This was the first Mercadona in the municipio of Mogán and is a famous low-cost supermarket across the whole of Spain.
Fruit and Vegetables
You can find many different products at Mercadona including really nice fresh fruit and vegetables. Their ‘Plátano de Canarias’ bananas are sweet and always ready to eat. Produce is weighed at the checkout.
Look out for food labels ‘sin gluten‘ which means gluten free and ‘sin lactosa‘ which means lactose free. They have many different products to try in both categories and even a great vegetarian and vegan selection of products including veggie burgers.
Our personal favourite area of Mercadona is the in-store bakery. They have a range of freshly baked goods including bread, cakes and rolls. There are even gluten free and lactose free options for some of the cakes. The chocolate sponge cake is delicious! The cheese bread is also really good. For something a little bit different, they have these cute and colourful macarons. There is a fridge with birthday or celebration cakes too.
Fresh Fish and Meat Counter
There is a fresh fish counter with a variety of different seafoods for your taste. If in doubt just ask the fishmonger in store or if you prefer you can buy frozen or refrigerated fish. The tuna steaks are really good!
The meat counter has all you would need whether you are throwing a BBQ at your villa or just looking for some quality slices of ham for picnic sandwiches.
Toiletries and Skin Care
Mercadona has its own brand of beauty and toiletries called Deliplus. These products are cheaper than brand named items and some of them are just as good. Their own brand of facial wipes are very popular as is their range of skin care, makeup and shower gels.
If you are living in Gran Canaria or having a very long holiday then you may need things like brushes, mops, bins and cleaning items. You can find all of this in Mercadona including washing detergents, floor cleaners and air fresheners.
You can also find a good range of pet food and treats.
Wine Cellar and Drinks
There is a full range of wines and alcoholic drinks plus fizzy drinks, large bottles of water, tea, iced coffee and energy drinks. In some large supermarkets in Gran Canaria canned drinks are not kept in the fridge so bare that in mind when you are buying them.
Baby Food and Necessities
There’s a whole range of all you may need for your baby or toddler including foods and nappies.
The large carpark makes it very easy to park up and get your shopping at Mercadona. We've been at various times of the day and there has always been plenty of parking spaces.
There are 2 ways into the supermarket, which is below the carpark; you can go via the lift and stairwell which is where you will also find the toilets including accessible toilets or you can take the escalators down into the store.
For Mercadona’s home delivery service please check in store for the terms and conditions including delivery times and areas included.
All that and much more, you can check it out for yourself on your next visit. The location and opening hours are below. If you have any comments or questions please let me know in the comments at the end of this post.
